So i made a post on My facebook page on how i dont support This new law that any gay caught would spend 14 years in jail and i almost got murdered with insults.
But that wont stop Me from saying What i feel the picture attached to This is a chat from one jobless guy with another guy on facebook. The law hasn't even been up to a month and people are already planning blackmail with it. This law can't be effective in This country because even the law enforcers are too corrupt to care, a Good bribe will shut them up real good.
There would be set ups, blackmails, deceit and more corruption and am sure no gay will go to jail But the innocent ones will suffer.
I asked how can you tell If someone is a lesbian/gay or not and no one had a Good answer. There is no way to tell If someone is an homosexual or Not some girls loves acting like men and some men loves acting like girls, it has nothing to do with their sexuality.
So in This case where you cant tell for sure an ordinary accusation is good enough to land someone in jail, Now is that fair?
What is the governments business with What people do with their body? In a country where terrorism has left most of the citizens homeless, in a country where there are many jobless people that don't mind doing anything just for a little change. Is it homosexuality that should be the concern of the government?
when there are more pressing issues to deal with.
Am Not supporting gays, am a Christian and i know same sex marriage is a sin just as i know pre marital sex, lies, hate, anger and jealousy are sins.
I also know Christ has taught us Not to discriminate instead we should convert the sinners.
The same Christ has told us Not to judge But love.
People Say Nigeria has culture and the president signed that proposal because of our culture yet why do i find that hard to believe? Election is near, He has been doing a bad job so far, so banning of homosexuals sounds like the perfect plan to get votes from the so called fake Christians in the country.
Am Not dissing anyone But am pained because i know many people are going to fall victims. When the anti prostitution law was banned years back. I remember in 2009 on My way back from a friends place at ikeja, some police men approached me and started questioning me, there was no suspicious movements from me i was Just walking like every other person that night and it wasnt even late it was just 8pm, i had no bag with me.
They asked What i was doing and many other questions which i gave them answers to But still i was arrested for absolutely nothing. When i entered the bus i saw other girls also arrested, the police asked us to bring 1500 naira each for them to release us. I didnt even have 300 on me Not to talk of 1500.
Does it mean that one cant move freely again? I was so angry But What could i do? After they patrolled with us in the bus that night, they took us to the station some of the girls paid the money and was set free.
It was only remaining 4 of us they threatened to take us to headquarters If we dont cooperate. What did i do and why should i cooperate? If i had money i would had even paid But i was penniless.
We slept there that night and in the morning 4 of the police men called us out and said If we could have sex with them they would let us go because prostitution = 5 years in jail. WTF!!! We started begging them to let us go that we would even come back to pay our bail fee, If only i had a phone i would had called home. While we were arguing the senior officer came she was a female, she asked What happened and we individually explained, she immediately asked them to release us. Now lets say she didnt come we would had slept with those police men somehow, no doubt because we feared the term "jail" even If we were innocent ..
What sort of environment are our government creating for us? should we flee from our country? Is the prostitution law working? How many prostitutes are in jail?
This is Now a new way to make money in Nigeria and people will exploit it to the fullest.
Thank you.
